The environment in which we operate and the nature of work is continuing to change. The world is becoming more networked and faster moving forcing us to plan, review and respond faster than ever before. This has been called a VUCA world (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous). In this context the role of performance measurement and management has to evolve. Increasingly we are finding that traditional management approaches are not fast enough for the speed and volume of change happening in the environment. Production and operational environments are particularly badly hit by this as they take time to adapt whilst everything else is moving very quickly in this connected digital age.
